You gotta love Pinterest…right?

Turmeric Chai Tea Concentrate

Spices are healing in many ways

I loved her combination of the typical Chai spices with the addition of one of my favorite spices…cardamom.  I’ve also been looking for a tasty Turmeric tea recipe and decided to try the combination!

This Turmeric Chai Tea Concentrate is not only yummy, warming and comforting but it has amazing health benefits.  You will love it…check a few of the health benefits of this tea, there are really too many to list.

Why would anyone not drink this?!

  • Cloves – anti-inflammatory, digestive support, aphrodisiac
  • Cinnamon – anti-inflammatory, balances blood sugar, fight bacterial & fungal infections
  • Ginger – anti-inflammatory, balances blood sugar, anti-inflammatory
  • Cardamom – anti-inflammatory, digestive support, aphrodisiac
  • Nutmeg – digestive support, improved sleep, anti-cancer
  • Allspice – anti-inflammatory, digestive support, improves arthritis, gout and hemorrhoids
  • Turmeric – anti-inflammatory, improved brain function, reduce depression
  • Celtic Sea Salt – alkalizing, improve brain function, normalize blood pressure
  • Black pepper – improves absorption of Turmeric, improves cognition, antibacterial

The sweeteners I used also have health properties

  • Maple Syrup – antioxidant, immune booster, heart healthy
  • Coconut Sugar – lower glycemic index
  • Lucuma powder – anti-inflammatory, wound healing, lower blood pressure

One more thing was needed…a beneficial fat

Turmeric Chai Tea Concentrate

This is where all chocolate starts…cacao beans and cacao butter.

As I sipped and added bits of spices, something was missing…it wasn’t quite perfect.  I decided to capture the full flavor of these amazing spices, the concentrate needed some kind of fat.

What you say?  Fat carries the flavor over the tongue so if something doesn’t seem quite right I always add a little fat before I start piling in the sugar or salt.

You could also use unrefined extra virgin coconut oil but I was out of coconut oil, so I added cacao butter…this took the flavor over the roof!

I use Nativas Naturals raw cacao butter and raw chocolate.  It’s a little spendy at the outset, however, I purchased a pound of it in 2011 and I am still using it…and yes, I’ve made hand cream with it!

Navitas Naturals Cacao Butter is the pure, cold-pressed oil of the cacao bean – the source of all cocoa products. Critical to chocolate recipes, cacao butter is a nontoxic solid that melts at body temperature, making it an excellent exotic massage oil and sensuous skin cream. http://navitasnaturals.com/product/434/Cacao-Butter.html

Homemade Almond Milk

Homemade Almond Milk

Use your favorite milk for your latte

Since this is a Turmeric Chai Tea Concentrate, once you know you love it, make a big batch and keep it in the fridge or you could just make a recipe or two of the spices since you already have them out and store them in small glass containers, ready for the next batch.

You can use any type of milk you like, I used homemade almond milk and the pulp from my homemade almond milk was used to make the most incredible treat I’ve ever had…Salted Caramel Truffles!

This recipe is enough for 2 cups but I tripled it so I can use it all week. If you are uncertain about these spices I suggest you add small amounts and sip your way to perfection one spice at a time … just be sure you write down the amounts you like. Making a larger amount takes the same amount of time but you won't have to make it again so soon!

Recipe Notes

Store in a glass jar for a week (you could probably freeze it in ice cube trays as well)

Make your Turmeric Chai Latte

  • ½ cup Turmeric Chai concentrate
  • ¾ cup almond or coconut milk
  • Warm separately, froth the almond milk with an immersion blender for more fun.
  • Gently blend the concentrate and milk
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon
  • Enjoy!

If you love this as much as I do you could put all the spices together in a glass jar (enough for however much concentrate you want to make) and have that part ready to go!
